THE FLINTSTONE-MOBILE
from
THE FLINTSTONES
UNIVERSAL STUDIOS (1994)
The Flintstones were created by Hanna Barbara.
Broadcast by ABC beginning in 1960, it was the first
cartoon series ever scheduled on the networks during
prime time. The series still enjoys worldwide popularity.
Thirty four years later the live action film version was
released by Universal Studios. The movie stars John
Goodman as Fred Flintstone and Rick Moranis as Barney
Rubble. Elizabeth Perkins and Rosie O'Donnell co star as
Wilma and Betty.
Built by George Barris, Several steps
were involved in creating the
Flintstone-mobile.  First, a full sized
body was formed of foam.  Then
molds were created to produce the
fiberglass body.  Since prehistoric
Bedrock does not have gas-powered
engines, the car is foot-powered   or
appears to be.  One of the cars had
an electric engine for the actors to
drive to facilitate production.
