1977 Pontiac Trans AM
Burt Reynolds has starred in many box office hits and one of his most memorable characters is Bandit, a king of the road, trucker, and show off. In Smokey and the Bandit, he teams up with fellow trucker Jerry Reed as “The Snowman” and accepts the ultimate challenge – pick up a truckload of Coors beer from Texarkana, the closest place it can be legally sold, and haul it to cross country to Atlanta in 28 hours to collect the $80,000 reward.
The Trans Am, Bandit 1, was used as a decoy for the 18 wheeler, Bandit 2, that was hauling the bootleg beer. The strategy was to get the police to chase Bandit 1 in his powerful and agile Trans Am instead of Snowman driving the truck. What results is one of the wildest series of car chases and crashes ever filmed.
